Punjabi singer Mika Singh has spoken out in support of his elder brother Daler Mehndi after a controversial on-stage confrontation at a musical event in Uttarakhand sparked widespread discussion. Sharing a video from the incident on social media, Mika criticised Cabinet Minister Subodh Uniyal for his alleged remarks about fellow singer Maninder Buttar and questioned whether artists were being treated with the respect they deserve. His strong reaction has added another chapter to the controversy, which began when Daler Mehndi's live performance was interrupted during the Siddhpeeth Maa Kunjapuri Tourism and Development Fair in New Tehri.
The incident reportedly took place when Subodh Uniyal walked onto the stage during Daler Mehndi's performance and questioned the singer over allegations of lip-syncing and appearing intoxicated. The minister reportedly raised concerns about the performance and mentioned the fee paid for the appearance. Daler Mehndi asked the minister to leave the stage before continuing his performance with his band. Videos of the confrontation circulated on social media, prompting reactions from fans and people associated with the entertainment industry. The episode has since raised broader questions about how performers should be treated during public events, particularly when disagreements arise on stage.
Mika Singh shared his reaction in a strongly worded social media post, arguing that artists deserve dignity regardless of the circumstances. Referring to the minister's reported remarks about Maninder Buttar, Mika questioned whether such language was appropriate for someone holding public office. He also expressed concern that public humiliation could discourage singers from accepting invitations to perform in Uttarakhand. Emphasising his affection for the state, Mika made it clear that his criticism was directed at the alleged behaviour rather than the people or culture of Uttarakhand. He called on the minister to reflect on his words and address the situation respectfully.
The controversy has also drawn attention to the circumstances surrounding Daler Mehndi's performance. According to reports, the minister questioned whether the singer was performing live and alleged that he was not in a fit condition to entertain the audience. Uniyal also referred to the reported payment of Rs 35 lakh for the show. However, the allegations about intoxication have not been independently established. Mika has defended his brother, insisting that the public reprimand was inappropriate and calling for an apology. The disagreement has since developed into a wider discussion about professional expectations and the treatment of performers at public events.
Mika's latest post has further fuelled the online conversation, particularly his warning that artists may become reluctant to perform in Uttarakhand if they fear being publicly humiliated. He stressed that respect should work both ways and urged the minister to exercise responsibility and humility. Meanwhile, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has offered to speak with Daler Mehndi and Mika Singh, appealing for the controversy not to be prolonged. As reactions continue, the episode remains a talking point across the music and entertainment industries, with questions about artists' dignity, event organisers' expectations and the importance of handling disagreements professionally.
