When love turns into obsession, the line between romance and danger can become frighteningly thin. That is the dark territory explored in Tu Hai Meri Kiran, the upcoming romantic psychological thriller starring real-life couple Sonakshi Sinha and Zaheer Iqbal. As the film gears up for its theatrical release on October 23, 2026, Zaheer has opened up about preparing for his challenging role, crediting director Karan Rawal for giving him the time and creative freedom to explore his character before stepping onto the set.
Speaking about his preparation, Zaheer revealed that the process involved extensive workshops, experimentation and discussions with the director. “Oh, it was a lot of workshops and a lot of help from my director Karan Rawal. He's been fantastic and he was very clear of what he wanted. So, it makes it really easier for us,” the actor shared. He explained that having a director who knew exactly what he wanted helped him understand the character better and approach the performance with greater clarity. For a story that explores the disturbing transformation of love into an all-consuming obsession, such preparation can make a significant difference.
Zaheer further revealed that the workshops involved trying different variations of scenes and carefully reviewing the results. “We've tried during our workshops, shot a lot of this and would see the videos and see whether this is something that we want to go that high or that low or what we want to do,” he explained. Rather than settling on the first interpretation of a scene, the team experimented with different emotional levels to determine what worked best for the story. He also expressed gratitude to Rawal for allowing the cast enough time to explore these possibilities before filming began. His comments offer a glimpse into the detailed creative process behind a character whose emotions are expected to take a dark and unsettling turn.
In Tu Hai Meri Kiran, Sonakshi plays Kiran, a confident and free-spirited woman whose life changes after she meets Samar, played by Zaheer. What initially appears to be an ordinary romantic connection gradually becomes something far more disturbing as Samar's feelings turn into possessiveness and dangerous fixation. As Kiran attempts to distance herself from the relationship, his refusal to let go pushes the story into increasingly tense territory. The film explores how affection can become destructive when love is confused with control, making the psychological conflict between the two characters central to the narrative.
The casting adds another interesting dimension to the film, as Sonakshi and Zaheer are married in real life and are now sharing the screen in a story that explores the darker side of relationships. Their on-screen dynamic will be markedly different from the real-life bond audiences associate with them, with Zaheer taking on a character driven by obsession rather than healthy affection. The supporting cast includes Ankit Gupta, Sherlin Seth, Zarina Wahab and Purnendu Bhattacharya. Directed and written by Karan Rawal, the film is presented by Echelon Productions and produced by Vishal Rana. Its music includes tracks such as ‘Na Roko’ by OAFF and Savera and ‘Humsafar’, sung by Vishal Mishra.
With its unsettling premise and Zaheer's account of the intensive preparation behind his performance, Tu Hai Meri Kiran is shaping up to offer audiences a different take on the romantic thriller genre. The actor's emphasis on workshops and experimentation suggests that developing the character required careful attention to emotional intensity and performance choices. Whether Samar's obsession will keep viewers gripped until the final moments remains to be seen, but the film's central conflict promises a tense cinematic experience. Tu Hai Meri Kiran is scheduled to release in theatres on October 23, 2026.
