Yami Gautam Dhar is all set to bring a mix of fantasy, mystery and family chaos to cinemas with her upcoming film Nayyi Navelli. The makers have announced that the film has received a U/A 16+ certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) and is scheduled for a theatrical release on October 16, 2026, just in time for the Dussehra festivities. Promising a blend of supernatural intrigue and family entertainment, the film aims to offer audiences something different this festive season. The announcement was accompanied by a striking poster featuring Yami in traditional attire, holding a trident, alongside the message “Ready to Entertain!” With its unusual premise and festive release window, the film is building curiosity ahead of its arrival on the big screen.
At the centre of Nayyi Navelli is Yami Gautam Dhar as Mohini, a new bride whose arrival in Meerut sets off an unexpected chain of events within her family. What initially appears to be the beginning of a happy married life soon takes a mysterious turn, as those around her begin to suspect that she may be a daayan. The premise opens the door to a combination of comedy, supernatural elements and domestic drama, with family suspicions adding to the confusion. Rather than following a conventional horror formula, the film is positioned as a fantasy family entertainer that brings together humour, mystery and the chaos that can emerge when extraordinary circumstances enter an otherwise ordinary household.
The newly unveiled poster adds to the film’s intrigue, presenting Yami in a traditional look with a trident in her hand. The prominent U/A 16+ certification announcement signals that the film has completed the certification process for its theatrical release. The visual also hints at the supernatural elements surrounding Mohini’s character, although the makers have kept several plot details under wraps. Yami, known for moving between thrillers, dramas and commercial entertainers, takes on another distinctive role with this project. Her portrayal of a bride caught in a world of suspicion and mystery is expected to be central to the film’s appeal, particularly as audiences discover how its supernatural premise unfolds.
Nayyi Navelli is directed by Balaji Mohan, marking his Bollywood debut. The film is written by Himanshu Sharma and Divy Nidhi Sharma and produced by Aanand L Rai and Himanshu Sharma. Presented by Amazon MGM Studios India and Colour Yellow Productions, the project brings together a team with experience across different styles of Hindi cinema. The combination of fantasy, comedy and horror gives the filmmakers room to explore both the absurdity and tension of a family convinced that something unusual is happening under its own roof. With Meerut serving as the story’s setting, the film also places its supernatural mystery within a recognisable Indian family environment.
Music for the film has been composed by G. V. Prakash Kumar, adding another element to the project’s entertainment package. Music can play an important role in balancing suspense, comedy and emotion in a story that moves between genres. As the release date approaches, the soundtrack and further promotional material could offer audiences a clearer sense of the film’s tone. The Dussehra release window also gives the makers an opportunity to bring families and groups of friends together for a theatrical outing filled with mystery and unexpected twists.
With its U/A 16+ certification secured and its theatrical release scheduled for October 16, 2026, Nayyi Navelli is preparing to enter the festive box-office race. Yami Gautam’s transformation into Mohini, Balaji Mohan’s directorial debut in Hindi cinema and the film’s unusual supernatural premise give it a distinctive identity. Whether the mysterious bride can win over audiences while keeping them guessing remains to be seen. For now, the makers are positioning Nayyi Navelli as a festive entertainer that promises laughter, family drama and a touch of the supernatural.
