Shah Rukh Khan has penned a deeply emotional tribute to veteran actor Nana Patekar, remembering him as a mentor, teacher, critic and friend whose straightforward nature and unmistakable personality left a lasting impression on everyone around him. Following Nana Patekar's passing, the Bollywood superstar took to social media to share personal memories of their relationship, offering fans a glimpse into the bond they shared away from the spotlight. From their memorable first meeting to their countless conversations and competitive carrom games, SRK's heartfelt words captured the affection, respect and admiration he had for the legendary performer. His tribute also celebrated Nana's honesty, humour and ability to express love in his own unconventional way.

Recalling their first encounter, Shah Rukh revealed how his nervousness and admiration led him to fiddle with his hair in front of Nana. The veteran actor immediately corrected him, offering advice that stayed with the superstar over the years. Shah Rukh wrote, “When I first met him, out of awe and awkwardness I fiddled with my hair. He slapped my hand away and said 'hero ki tarah Baal mat bana...tu actor hai'!” Remembering Nana's direct approach, SRK added, “He didn't flatter you. He didn't tell you what you wanted to hear. He told you what you needed to hear. That was Nana. Straightforward. Rough, honest and had the most beautiful smile.” The incident perfectly captured Nana's personality and his belief that an actor's craft mattered far more than appearances.

Shah Rukh also spoke about Nana's unusual but deeply affectionate way of expressing his feelings. According to the superstar, Nana would often begin by shouting at someone, only for his affection to become apparent moments later. SRK described the veteran actor's unique nature in touching words, writing, “He always had a strange way of showing affection. He would shout at you first, and then somewhere between the third or fourth insult, you realised you were being hugged.” He went on to make his feelings for Nana clear, adding, “He loved me and I loved him back.” For Shah Rukh, Nana was much more than an accomplished performer; he was someone whose honesty, criticism and guidance helped make their relationship special.

Their friendship also included plenty of laughter, spirited conversations and friendly competition. Shah Rukh fondly remembered Nana as a formidable carrom player who repeatedly defeated him and everyone else around him. As SRK recalled, Nana would relish every victory, making the games another treasured part of their time together. Remembering the moments they shared, the actor wrote, “He was a mentor, a teacher, a critic and a friend who beat me and everyone else around him in carrom game after game and relished his victories.” These memories made the loss particularly painful, as Shah Rukh wished they had more opportunities to talk, disagree, share tea and play another game together.

In one of the most moving passages of his tribute, Shah Rukh expressed how much he would miss Nana's intensity, laughter, madness and love. He wrote, “Nana your intensity, laughter, madness and love will always stay with us. I just wish we had time to have more conversations, another argument, another cup of tea and a game of carrom.” Reflecting on the veteran actor's wider impact, SRK added, “You have left a void not only in the world of cinema but in the hearts of all Indians and the world.” His words reflected the profound loss felt by those who admired Nana's work and those fortunate enough to have known him personally.

Concluding his emotional message, Shah Rukh promised to carry Nana's advice in his heart forever, recalling the powerful lesson, “hero banne ke chakar mein actor mat khona.” He then wrote, “May your soul rest in peace Nana and Allah bless you. The Heavens will be blessed to have you... a masterful actor and an unbeatable carrom champion. Love you and miss you dearly!! Too soon my Hero Actor! RIP.” Alongside his tribute, SRK shared a black-and-white image of the two actors facing each other, reflecting the intensity associated with Nana's screen presence. His farewell was not simply a tribute to a remarkable performer but a deeply personal goodbye to a friend whose words, affection and unforgettable personality will remain with him for a lifetime.
