Actress Keerthy Suresh is gearing up for her upcoming Netflix series Akka, co-starring Radhika Apte. During the trailer launch in Mumbai, the actress spoke about the extensive preparation that went into the project, highlighting how script reading, dialogue practice and learning the nuances of Hindi helped her prepare for her role. As her first Hindi project that she signed, Akka offered Keerthy an opportunity to experience a different working process and explore new aspects of acting.
Speaking about the preparation, Keerthy revealed that script reading was one of the most interesting parts of the experience. She said, “A lot of homework and prep work went into the project before the shoot, starting with script reading. This is the first Hindi project I signed, and script reading is something you generally don’t do, so that was something new for me. I loved doing it, and I loved the process.”
The actress also recalled an interesting conversation with veteran actor Nassar, whom she met while having breakfast at a hotel. Sharing the anecdote, Keerthy said, “I remember once I was having breakfast at a hotel and I met another senior actor, Nassar. He asked me what I was there for, and I said I was there for a show and for a script-reading process. He was like, ‘It is the actual process which we don’t follow.’ So, it was nice to do a lot of new things.” The conversation gave her an interesting perspective on the importance of script reading and the preparation involved before stepping onto a film or series set.
Beyond script reading, Keerthy put considerable effort into training and working on her dialogues. She explained that delivering Hindi dialogues required her to understand a particular style of speaking used in films. “I trained a lot, working on the dialogues. There is also a different kind of Hindi that we follow in films, right? Picking that up was one of the things I worked on,” she said. Her comments highlighted the effort she invested in adapting to the language and getting comfortable with the demands of her first Hindi series.
Produced by YRF Entertainment, Akka marks the directorial debut of Dharmaraj Shetty. Set in the 1980s in the fictional South Indian region of Pernuru, the crime thriller follows a fierce struggle for power between two formidable gangster queens. Keerthy plays Bhavani, while Radhika Apte portrays Rudra. Their characters occupy the centre of a distinctive matriarchal underworld, where ambition, authority and rivalry shape the story.
Scheduled to premiere globally on Netflix on October 30, 2026, Akka brings together a period setting, a crime-driven narrative and two prominent female leads. As excitement builds following the trailer launch, Keerthy’s account of her preparation offers a glimpse into the work behind the series and the new experiences she embraced while taking on her first Hindi project.
