Rishab Shetty is looking back at an unforgettable chapter in his cinematic journey as Kantara Chapter 1 completes one year. The actor filmmaker marked the milestone with an emotional note celebrating the prequel to his hugely loved 2022 Kannada film Kantara. For Shetty, taking the story forward by going back to its roots was not an easy task, especially after the original film created such a strong connection with audiences. A year after Kantara Chapter 1 arrived in theatres, the filmmaker says the love, appreciation and blessings from audiences continue to remain deeply special to him.
Reflecting on the challenge of making the prequel, Rishab Shetty wrote, "Kantara Chapter 1 — One Year. The biggest challenge was to bring this prequel to an audience that had already showered Kantara with immense love. To present a prelude, delve deeper into its roots, and tell a story that embodies the soul of the land was both a responsibility and a privilege. It has been a year since Kantara Chapter 1 arrived on the big screen, and the love, appreciation, and blessings continue to pour in." His words underline how important it was for him to expand the world of Kantara without losing the cultural essence that made the original film so distinctive.
Shetty also used the anniversary to acknowledge the people who worked alongside him on the ambitious project. He added, "Heartfelt thanks to every member of my team who stood as my backbone in this endeavor to tell the story of how the culture of the forest came to the land of the people. The satisfaction I witnessed on the faces of the audience remains fresh in my mind. That moment, that silence, that applause, and the love that followed will always remain special to me." His message reflects the scale of the creative effort behind the film, while also focusing on the emotional connection created inside theatres when audiences experienced the story together.
The anniversary post was accompanied by an intense video montage packed with dramatic visuals from Kantara Chapter 1. The 44 second video features ritualistic fire performances, high-energy action sequences, weapons, horseback moments, emotional close-ups and striking forest imagery. The visual celebration also includes a promotional poster featuring Shetty as a powerful drummer surrounded by fiery chaos, perfectly capturing the raw and intense atmosphere associated with the Kantara universe. The montage serves as a reminder of the film's grand visual scale while keeping its connection to folklore, nature and cultural traditions at the centre.
Kantara Chapter 1 was conceived as a prequel that explores the roots and mythology surrounding the world introduced in Kantara. Instead of simply repeating the formula of the original film, the story goes deeper into the cultural landscape and the relationship between the forest, the land and its people. Shetty's approach has consistently placed local traditions, spiritual elements and human emotions at the heart of the narrative, allowing the film to create a world that feels rooted in its cultural setting while reaching audiences beyond regional cinema. The anniversary message also highlights how personally connected Shetty remains to the story and the journey of bringing it to the big screen.
Looking ahead, Rishab Shetty ended his note with gratitude and hope for the future, writing, "I hope your love, blessings, and support continue for all our future endeavors. Five years… two stories… one dream…An unforgettable journey. I am forever grateful for all your love." The anniversary of Kantara Chapter 1 therefore becomes more than just a release milestone for the filmmaker. It is a celebration of five years of the Kantara journey, the audiences who embraced it and the team that helped bring its world to life. With the filmmaker continuing to carry forward stories rooted in culture and tradition, his message makes it clear that the journey of Kantara remains deeply personal, ambitious and far from over.
