Warner Bros has unveiled the official trailer for Model Citizen, an upcoming science fiction action thriller directed by Tag Mendillo and starring Aaron Eckhart in a mysterious role that blurs the line between identity, memory and reality. The film follows a troubled man whose forgotten past begins to catch up with him as he discovers that the world around him may not be what it seems. Combining elements of sci-fi, crime, psychological suspense and action, the movie promises a disturbing mystery centred on surveillance, human experimentation and a potentially dangerous government secret.
In Model Citizen, Eckhart plays Steven Bay, a former police officer who now works as a farm labourer while seeking treatment for his psychological struggles. Haunted by disturbing dreams of violent deaths, Steven cannot remember the life he once lived or understand why these terrifying visions continue to plague him. Although he appears to be trying to rebuild his life, strange occurrences gradually make him question his surroundings. His instincts suggest that something far more sinister is happening, and the closer he gets to the truth, the more difficult it becomes to distinguish reality from manipulation.
Steven's situation becomes even more complicated when he meets Gretchen, played by Emmanuelle Chriqui, a local woman with whom he quickly develops a connection. However, a seemingly ordinary date takes an unexpected turn when an unruly patron at a bar attempts to provoke a fight. Steven finds himself strangely incapable of defending himself, raising further questions about his physical abilities and hidden past. Soon, he begins noticing unsettling details about his home, including hidden surveillance cameras, while discovering that the house he remembers growing up in may not have been his home at all.
The mystery deepens when Steven learns about Jonathan Locke, a former police officer imprisoned for multiple murders who bears a striking resemblance to him. The revelation raises a series of disturbing questions about Steven's identity and whether his missing memories conceal something much more dangerous. Could he be connected to Locke's crimes, or has someone deliberately altered his memories and constructed a false identity for him? As the clues begin to connect, Steven embarks on a desperate search for answers that could expose a wider conspiracy involving advanced technology, psychological manipulation and human experimentation.
Directed by Tag Mendillo, Model Citizen also features Emmanuelle Chriqui alongside Eckhart in a story that appears to draw inspiration from familiar science fiction and action thrillers involving manufactured identities and individuals caught in secret experiments. Its premise may remind viewers of films such as RoboCop, Source Code and The Guest, which explore different aspects of altered identity, extraordinary abilities and hidden agendas. However, Model Citizen appears to place greater emphasis on surveillance and the psychological consequences of not knowing who you really are. The trailer raises intriguing questions, although the film will need strong storytelling and convincing character development to make its central mystery stand out.
Described as a story about a lethal government experiment gone wrong, Model Citizen is scheduled to arrive on November 3, 2026. The trailer sets up a tense journey in which Steven must confront the possibility that his entire existence has been carefully manipulated. While the concept offers plenty of room for suspense and action, its ultimate impact will depend on how effectively the film delivers its revelations and builds tension around its protagonist. For fans of science fiction thrillers featuring secret experiments, fractured memories and conspiracy-driven mysteries, Aaron Eckhart's latest outing could be one to watch when it arrives in November.
