The Mirzapur web series became a massive phenomenon. It received tremendous love from audiences, and with three successful seasons, it established itself as one of India's most celebrated OTT franchises.
However, despite all that popularity, the upcoming Mirzapur movie has generated nowhere near the same level of excitement. In fact, if you compare the buzz surrounding the series with the film, the movie has barely managed to create even a fraction of the discussion. Many people are still unaware that a Mirzapur film is even ready for release.
But this isn't really about the Mirzapur movie itself.
The real discussion is about Toxic, starring Yash. After being postponed twice, Toxic is now scheduled to release on the 28 August 2026, and the film is enjoying tremendous buzz across social media and among moviegoers. In contrast, conversations around Mirzapur remain relatively limited.
This is where things become interesting.
In recent days, some discussions online have started placing Mirzapur among the "most-awaited upcoming releases" alongside Toxic. What many observers find surprising is that Mirzapur is arriving nearly ten days after Toxic, and the two projects appear to be operating on very different scales in terms of audience anticipation.
If the comparison had been between Eetha and Toxic, it may have appeared more natural. Eetha is directed by Laxman Utekar, the filmmaker behind the blockbuster Chhaava. The film explores an important aspect of Maharashtra's cultural heritage through the art form of Lavani, while Shraddha Kapoor's involvement has further strengthened audience curiosity.
On the other hand, Mirzapur has yet to generate a comparable level of organic excitement for its theatrical outing. This raises an interesting question: Does repeatedly positioning a film alongside a highly anticipated release automatically elevate audience interest, or does genuine anticipation have to be earned independently?
More importantly, will these comparisons help Mirzapur attract greater attention, or could they ultimately invite unnecessary scrutiny from audiences who believe the two projects are not currently operating at the same level of public excitement?
