Filmmaker Zoya Akhtar celebrated her birthday on Wednesday, and her cousin Farah Khan made the occasion even more special with a dose of humour and affection. Taking to social media, Farah shared an adorable picture featuring Zoya and her brother, actor-filmmaker Farhan Akhtar, before posting a birthday wish of her own. Staying true to her trademark comic timing, Farah first addressed Farhan with a playful request: “Fru...please wish your sister a Happy Birthday.” When that approach apparently did not work, she decided to take matters into her own hands. Sharing another picture with Zoya, Farah wrote, “Chal...I will do it myself. Happy birthday Zoya. (Farhan made me do it).” The light-hearted exchange offered a glimpse into the family’s fun bond and quickly became a delightful birthday moment.
Zoya Akhtar, daughter of veteran lyricist Javed Akhtar and screenwriter Honey Irani, has established herself as one of Hindi cinema’s distinctive storytellers. Over the years, she has directed films that combine engaging characters with thoughtful observations about relationships, ambition and society. Her filmography includes Luck By Chance, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, Dil Dhadakne Do and Gully Boy, each exploring a different aspect of contemporary life. From the complexities of the film industry to friendship, family dynamics and the struggles of aspiring musicians, Zoya has consistently brought a recognisable voice to her work. Her films have earned appreciation for their layered storytelling and memorable characters, making her an influential filmmaker in modern Bollywood.
Among her notable projects is The Archies, the live-action adaptation of the popular Archie Comics universe, which premiered on Netflix on December 7, 2023. The film introduced a young ensemble cast featuring Agastya Nanda as Archie Andrews, Khushi Kapoor as Betty Cooper, Suhana Khan as Veronica Lodge, Vedang Raina as Reggie Mantle, Mihir Ahuja as Jughead Jones, Aditi Saigal as Ethel Muggs and Yuvraj Menda as Dilton Doiley. The musical coming-of-age drama brought the familiar comic-book characters into an Indian setting, introducing them to a new generation of viewers. The project also marked the big-screen debut of several young performers, making it a widely discussed release.
Meanwhile, Farah Khan has been keeping audiences entertained through her increasingly popular YouTube channel. Her videos featuring celebrity home visits, food explorations and candid conversations with actors and other personalities have attracted viewers across age groups, including younger audiences. Farah’s straightforward humour and spontaneous interactions have become a major part of the channel’s appeal. Whether she is chatting with celebrities in their homes or exploring interesting food spots, her videos often reveal a more relaxed side of the entertainment industry. Her digital presence has allowed her to connect with audiences beyond her work as a choreographer and filmmaker, giving fans another reason to look forward to her appearances.
Farah is also set to return as the host of the second season of Lock Upp: Sach Ya Sazaa alongside Riteish Deshmukh, according to the announcement referenced in the report. The upcoming season follows the attention generated by the first instalment, which brought together contestants in a prison-themed reality show filled with personal revelations, confrontations and challenges. The format encouraged participants to share stories from their lives while navigating tense situations inside the jail. The first season generated considerable online discussion, with moments from the show circulating widely across social media. The new season is expected to bring the format back into the spotlight with a fresh hosting combination.
While professional announcements keep Farah busy, her birthday message for Zoya offered a reminder of the lighter moments shared by Bollywood families away from the cameras. Her playful exchange involving Farhan turned a simple birthday greeting into an entertaining social media moment. For Zoya, the day celebrated not only another year but also a filmmaking journey that continues to shape contemporary Hindi cinema. From memorable films to affectionate family banter, the birthday occasion brought together two familiar sides of the entertainment world.
