Friendship breakups are painful. Family drama is messy. But when your best friend starts dating your daughter? That’s the deliciously chaotic premise behind Alice and Steve, the upcoming comedy series arriving on June 6, 2026, and it already sounds like one of the most entertaining relationship disasters of the year.

Created and written by British writer Sophie Goodhart, Alice and Steve takes the classic romantic comedy formula and flips it completely upside down. The series follows Alice, played by Nicola Walker, whose life spirals into emotional warfare after discovering that her longtime best friend Steve, played by Jemaine Clement, has fallen for her 26-year-old daughter Izzy. What begins as shock quickly transforms into an all-out feud packed with manipulation, sabotage, emotional blackmail, and hilariously petty revenge.

At the heart of the series is a friendship that has lasted more than two decades. Alice and Steve know each other better than anyone else, which makes their fallout even more brutal — and funnier. Alice is determined to destroy the relationship using every trick she can think of, from guilt trips and threats to interfering with Steve’s career. But Steve refuses to back down. He genuinely believes Izzy is the best thing that has ever happened to him, and he’s ready to fight for their relationship no matter how uncomfortable things become.

Yali Topol Margalith stars as Izzy, the woman caught in the middle of this emotional battlefield. Rather than simply being a passive character in the chaos, Izzy appears determined to make her own choices, even as her mother and boyfriend wage war around her. The supporting cast, including Joel Fry, Tyrese Eaton-Dyce, and Marcia Warren, adds even more comedic energy to what already sounds like a wildly unpredictable series.

What makes Alice and Steve especially intriguing is its “anti-romantic comedy” angle. Instead of idealized relationships and predictable happy endings, the show leans into the awkward, selfish, emotional, and often ridiculous side of love. It explores how far people are willing to go to hold onto the people they care about — even when they’re behaving terribly. Beneath all the sharp humor and escalating chaos, there’s also a surprisingly relatable story about fear, loneliness, aging friendships, and changing family dynamics.

With its sharp premise, talented cast, and emotionally messy storytelling, Alice and Steve could easily become one of the standout comedy series of Summer 2026. It’s uncomfortable, hilarious, dramatic, and painfully human all at once. Whether viewers end up rooting for Alice, Steve, or Izzy, one thing is certain: by the end of this feud, nobody’s relationships will ever look the same again.
