Akshay Kumar has officially begun filming his much-awaited sci-fi thriller Samuk, marking the start of what promises to be one of the actor’s most ambitious projects yet. The actor announced the news on social media with a striking video and introduced his character, Vivaan Ahuja, while teasing audiences about the film’s new genre and challenging premise.

Sharing the video, Akshay wrote, “New genre. New character. New challenge. Vivaan Ahuja reporting for duty. Samuk filming begins today.” The announcement immediately sparked curiosity among fans, particularly because the project takes the superstar into a genre that he has not explored on this scale before.

The 30-second video introduces Akshay in a stylish new avatar. Dressed in a black suit, crisp white shirt, red tie and sunglasses, the actor walks confidently across a London pavement while carrying the Samuk clapperboard. The historic surroundings add a cinematic feel to the announcement and offer the first glimpse of the film's international production scale.

Samuk is being described as an alien survival-action thriller that combines military realism, survival horror and alien mythology. The film is being promoted as India's first large-scale predator-alien cinematic project, making its concept particularly intriguing for audiences accustomed to more conventional Bollywood action entertainers.

The movie is directed by Kanishk Varma and produced by Vipul Amrutlal Shah. The project also reunites Varma and Shah after 13 years, adding another interesting layer to the ambitious production. A major portion of the movie is expected to be shot in London, where principal photography officially began on August 23, 2026.

One of the film's biggest attractions is its approach to the alien creature itself. The makers are reportedly using practical creature effects with the involvement of acclaimed creature-effects artist Alec Gillis. The decision could give the alien threat a more tangible and physical presence instead of relying entirely on computer-generated imagery.

For Akshay Kumar, Samuk represents a significant change of pace. The actor has frequently moved between action, comedy, drama and social entertainers, but an intense alien survival thriller gives him an entirely different world and character to explore. As Vivaan Ahuja, he appears set to lead a story where survival could be just as important as traditional action heroics.

The film is being planned as a Pan-India theatrical release in 2027. With filming now underway in London, the makers are expected to gradually reveal more about Vivaan Ahuja, the alien threat and the larger mythology surrounding Samuk. For now, Akshay's first announcement has made one thing clear: he is ready to enter a completely new cinematic territory.
