Aamir Khan has addressed several much-discussed projects, including 3 Idiots Part 2, the possible sequel to Andaz Apna Apna and rumours surrounding his next film, during his recent visit to Mumbai. The superstar attended the inauguration of the Celebrate Cinema 2026 festival at Subhash Ghai’s Whistling Woods International (WWI) film school on October 7, 2026. Accompanied by filmmaker Subhash Ghai and WWI President Meghna Ghai Puri, Aamir interacted with aspiring filmmakers, shared his thoughts on the changing landscape of Indian cinema and discussed the importance of storytelling. Naturally, questions about his upcoming projects also came up, giving the actor an opportunity to clarify what is currently in development and what remains unconfirmed.
One of the biggest talking points was the much-anticipated sequel to 3 Idiots, the 2009 blockbuster directed by Rajkumar Hirani. When asked whether preparations for the second instalment had begun, Aamir responded with his trademark humour, saying, “So, you have some exclusive news that I don't have? Well, work is currently in progress on the script. We’ll see—once Raju-ji is happy with the script, we’ll go ahead and make it.” His statement confirms that the script is being developed, but the film's future will depend on Rajkumar Hirani being satisfied with the material. For fans who have waited years to see the beloved characters return, this offers an encouraging update without making a sequel official just yet.
Aamir was also asked about his new look, which has sparked curiosity about the project he might be preparing for. However, the actor chose to keep the details under wraps, explaining, “I’ll make an announcement regarding that once things are ready and fully developed. It’s a bit too early right now.” While speculation continues about his next big-screen appearance, Aamir made it clear that he prefers to reveal information only when a project has progressed sufficiently. Known for his careful approach to selecting roles and preparing for films, the actor appears determined to avoid creating expectations before he is ready to share concrete details.
Another project that caught the audience's attention was the possible sequel to Andaz Apna Apna, the cult comedy that also starred Salman Khan. Asked about the film, Aamir said, “I’m looking forward to that too; let’s see what happens with it.” His response suggests that he remains interested in the possibility, although he did not confirm that the sequel is moving forward. The original film has developed a devoted following over the years, with its quirky characters, memorable dialogues and comic situations continuing to entertain audiences. Any development involving a sequel is therefore likely to attract considerable interest, but fans will have to wait for an official confirmation before celebrating a return to its beloved comic world.
Aamir also addressed speculation surrounding Lalkar, a project whose name has been circulating on social media as a possible part of his upcoming slate. Rather than confirming or denying the reports, he explained why he prefers to remain cautious when discussing films that are still being finalised. “Has there been any official announcement yet about which film I’m doing? How do you know which film I’m working on? No, no—until everything is set, I neither say yes nor no. Every film involves a process; if I speak too soon and later have to say, ‘No, brother, it’s not happening,’ it doesn't look good. Once things are ready and completely finalized, we will certainly share it with you—why would we hide it from you?” His comments underline the importance of distinguishing online speculation from confirmed announcements and suggest that no definitive update should be assumed until the details are settled.
The festival itself provided a platform for Aamir to connect with the next generation of filmmakers and discuss the craft behind cinema. He officially inaugurated Celebrate Cinema 2026, which opened with a special screening of his film Sitaare Zameen Par. During the Cinema '26 Workshop, he spoke to a packed audience of film students about technological developments in Indian filmmaking, the scriptwriting process and the future of cinematic storytelling. His appearance brought together conversations about cinema's creative possibilities and the practical realities of making films. While the updates on 3 Idiots Part 2, Andaz Apna Apna and Lalkar are likely to keep fans guessing, Aamir's message remained consistent: he will share more when the projects are ready and officially finalised.
