For the first time in her career, Wamiqa Gabbi steps into the world of comedy with Maddock Films’ upcoming romantic comedy Bhool Chuk Maaf, directed by Karan Sharma. The film, starring Rajkummar Rao and Wamiqa in the lead roles, is set to release on May 9, 2025.
At the trailer launch event in Mumbai, Wamiqa opened up about her journey in taking on a comic role and the immense support she received from her team. “Working with Dinesh sir has been a blessing,” she said with gratitude. “There are very few people who place this kind of trust in actors. If he sees potential, he puts his money on it and gives opportunities. I’m truly thankful to him for trusting me.”
Speaking about her experience working alongside Rajkummar Rao, she admitted feeling nervous at first. “I was quite intimidated working with Raj. I used to keep telling Karan sir, ‘Please let me know if I’m doing something wrong.’ I was putting in a lot of effort, but he and Raj both made me feel so comfortable. Raj would say, ‘We are here, don’t worry, if anything goes wrong—we’ll handle it together.’”
Wamiqa credited her co-star and director for her performance. “If I’ve managed to do even a little justice to this role, it’s because of Raj and Karan sir. They made sure I could perform with confidence. It was one of the most beautiful experiences of my career—it felt magical. Everyone was happy while making this film, and that energy reflected on set.”
She also spoke about her initial self-doubt regarding comedy as a genre. “I always had a doubt that I wouldn’t be able to pull off comedy. I didn’t know if I could actually do it in front of the camera—it’s tough. But working with Raj and the rest of the cast taught me so much about comic timing. I’ve learned a lot, and now I feel completely ready to take on more comedy roles.”
