News Helpline | December, 28 2012

The multi service operators (MSOs) in Kolkata have again failed to complete the digitisation process by the given deadline of 28th December. This was the third time that city has failed to meet the deadline. The previous dates set were 30th June and 31st October. Though cities like Mumbai and Delhi had all the cable analogues switched over to Set-Top boxes by 31st October, 25-30% 0f digitisation process is yet to be completed in Kolkata. The MSOs now have been warned by state government against towing to the Centre's analog signal switch-off directive.

Though all English general entertainment, English and Hindi news, sports, music, devotional and kids' channels went off the air at more than 90% of cable homes in the Kolkata Metropolitan Area, Bengali channels-both entertainment and news-and Hindi entertainment channels in 4 million cable homes continued to be beamed in the city and its suburbs. Sources said I&B secretary Navil Kapur will fly down to the city from Delhi on Friday to break the ice and discuss the digitization issue with state information & cultural affairs secretary Nandini Chakraborty.
