Verdict : fast paced film misses the right story
Veere di wedding starring Kareena, Sonam, Swara and debutant Shika is a film about four childhood friends who want to forget the world exists, have the time of their lives and avoid all consequences. Except the film actually shows none of those things. While it starts with (Kareena) Kalindi's mom telling us the moral of the story is to learn from your mistakes the film hardly talks about any of those.
The film lives on one agenda, role reversal, all it wants to do is show the audience women can do what men can, of course, they can but as people not because they are told. The characters seem shallow with only one trait to describe them and their relationship with other characters.
Our four Veere's essentially have no reason to remain, friends, granted they were best friends as kids but when one literally run away to another continent the strings break unless you work together or have another common connection. Hell, we don't even know how they can afford a lifestyle like that, because except for Avni (Sonam) we have no idea what anyone else does.
Kareena and Sonam have managed what they could with the half-baked story Swara and Shikha are a breath of fresh air. Swara's impeccable portrayal of the spoiled rich brat who also knows how to make it right is the best character in the film.
While the loud music, buzzed but forced talks, bright clothes and cussing might leave you empowered and in control when leaving, Veere di wedding will still fail to fill the whole of an incomplete story.
