Movie Review

Rating :

Verdict : Must Watch

‘Shikara’ is based on the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits from Kashmir in 1990. The story looks at the theme of love and how it remains unextinguished even after 30 years of exile.  The movie bear out to be more reality than a film.  A wonderful film with good star casts and outstanding direction. No religion supremacy has been flaunted. Extremely heart touching, sensible and sensitive movie.

Rarely do films in Bollywood happen which hit you hard and shake the soul inside your body as well. While Shikara tells the hard-hitting and heart-breaking story of Kashmiri Pandits’ exodus, it beautifully gives the universal message of love. Without getting preachy it comes out and gives a shining example of how to spread love even in the darkest time. The way the message has been delivered will touch each and everyone’s heart.

Lead actors Aadil Khan & Sadia give sincere performances and make the characters believable. They have the talent to watch out. Vidhu Vinod Chopra gives excellent direction to the film. Music maestro A.R. Rehman’s music have hooked up very precisely with the film.

The love story of lead characters covers most of the part of the storyline and it’s very beautiful. The old school romance, the mesmerizing chemistry topped with rich poetic dialogues will keep your heart warm.

The narrative is a little bit more visually exciting and cinematically engaging in the first half, while the second half is more invested in the love story, which does feel far-fetched, predictable and dated at times. Shikara is a story of love and courage. The film also stars actual Kashmiri Pandits and is shot with the inhabitants of the Jagti refugee camp and other such camps. With Shikara, which is Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s parents’ story in the backdrop of Kashmiri Pandits’ exodus, is surely a public acceptance story.
Shikara is a 2020 Indian Hindi-language romantic period film produced and directed by Vidhu Vinod Chopra. The film is based on the Exodus of Kashmiri Hindus from Kashmir. The film was released on 7 February 2020.
