Movie Review

Rating :

Verdict : One time watch

Priyanka Chopra who has already taken Hollywood by storm is back in Bollywood with Prakash Jha's most recent flick Jai Gangaajal: The End Game. Will Priyanka make an impact with her lead as an IPS officer? Will 'Jai Gangaajal' match up to the expectations set by its prequel? Will Prakash Jha firm his foothold in the field of acting? Here is our review.
Story : Jai Gangaajal: The End Game features IPS officer Abha Mathur (Priyanka Chopra) as the newly appointed first female SP of Bankipur district where khaki is the slave of local MLA Babloo Pandey (Manav Kaul) and his 'Chhota Vidhayak' brother 'W' or Dubloo Pandey (Ninad Kamat).  While putting efforts in making the place a terror free land, she sets herself against Babloo and aide of Lakhisarai district. DSP BN Singh (Prakash Jha) is by Babloo whenever there's any wrong to be accomplished. Mathur has the task of cleaning up Bankipur. How she achieves it is what Jai Gangaajal is made of.
Performances: Priyanka has put her blood and sweat in decorating character of IPS officer Abha Mathur. From beating up goons in the middle of the street to throwing her lot behind the police, Abha Mathur is near-perfect.
Prakash Jha’s character comes out more powerful due to vibrancy hooked with it. First he is a corrupt official and then he is the man of duty, while transforming himself into a true cop he is also an emotional man on a quest to save two lives. His various shades make him a show stealer in Jai Gangaajal.
Other actors like Manav Kaul, Rahul Bhat and Queen Harish have also played a significant role in pushing the movie in an engaging manner.
Whats not: Many socio-political affairs have been offered on the lines of drama – be it farmers' suicide or lynching act but placed with a disclaimer of it being completely fictional. As reel life drama, Priyanka in opposite local goons, her own staff, and her struggle to keep trust of people; also a kidnapping mystery with life on stake have been added. The major problem seems to remain with the script which seems unnecessarily pushed at  certain occasions; mostly the film ends at interval. Post interval it is just a drama that takes audiences to a conclusion.
Whats hot: Setting in the village backdrop, a grand villa and police station; cinematographer Sachin Krishn has done a remarkable job in assuring that each frame looks different even it has a repetition during the play.  Background score by Salim-Sulaiman is commendable. Priyanka Chopra's Abha Mathur is worth watching. May be she is no Dabangg style cop but still she has a class to watch for.
Overall, Jai Gangaajal is just another attempt at making a blockbuster, but it lacks the depth. Watch it for Prakash Jha.
