Verdict : Hate Story 2 is a mix of sensuality and revenge drama weaved in a good story. So if you are a revenge saga fan, you shouldn’t miss this one ______________________________________________________________________________________
Everyone loves a good revenge drama. Whether its television or film, Films like 'Zakhmi Aurat', 'Khoon Bhari Maang', 'Shradhanjali', 'Mrityudand', 'Ek Haseena Thi', 'Bandit Queen' and few more are perfect example of good female oriented revenge drama from our Hindi cinema. These films were made with lesser budget in comparison to the male oriented revenge drama and also managed to touch the female audience base,Two years back we saw a similar type of low budget film 'Hate Story', but this time it was intellectually crafted to the level of erotic thriller around it. The whole erotica thriller worked for the film and just like mentioned earlier ended up being a profitable film for the producers. Looking at the profit and this new niche audience for such film, the makers decided to start a franchise under the same name and returned back, with 'Hate Story 2'. The movie Directed by Vishal Pandya and Surveen Chawla, Sushant Singh and Jay Bhanushali in the lead roles. The music has already become quite popular and finally this film has released today. So, let’s see how the movie turns out to be…
Hate Story 2 is a tale of Sonika (Surveen), the mistress of a brutal politico Mandar Mhatre (played by Sushant Singh). He has controlled her body, mind and spirit. Going against the rules of Mandar, Sonika falls for Akshay (Jay), her classmate from a photography school, a local politician Mandar (Sushant) is also in love with Sonica. Since Mandar cannot accept the fact that Sonica loves Akshay, An agitated Mandar gets Akshay killed and Sonika buried alive. Sonika, however, manages to escape from the coffin and seeks revenge with the help of an honest police officer played by Siddharth Kher. Will Sonica succeed in seeking revenge, or will she also be crushed by Mandar who has strong political backing? The answers to these questions are what forms the rest of ‘Hate Story 2’…
Let’s start with the performances. There is no doubt about the fact that Sushant Singh is a brilliant actor and he pretty much steals the show in every scene and the movie reaches a particular level only because of his act.
While Jay Bhanushali did not have much scope in the film to showcase his talent, Surveen is a good addition in a bad movie. The actress has done a good job with her act as the avenging woman and she provides the necessary oomph factor in the film. The movie belongs to Surveen and Sushant and only their scenes and confrontations are executed well.
It’s high time that a few filmmakers of Bollywood make peace with the fact that erotica doesn’t always help movies turn out to be a hit at the box-office. Though the story is good, thanks to its bad execution, the film gets illogical at one point and the viewer fail to understand why Surveen can’t actually walk out of all the problems that she has been facing.
After a hell lot of negatives, even if you want to watch the film because of its erotica, then let me kill that for you! The chemistry between Surveen and Jay lacks the essential heat and the duo fail to create the so-called sensual environment needed for the audiences to stay glued to their seats.
The film sure has an engaging story, but Vishal Pandya’s direction lacks substance. Bollywood has earlier delivered some remarkable revenge dramas in the form of ‘Khoon Bhari Maang’, ‘Intaquam’, ‘Oh Bewafaa’, but ‘Hate Story 2’ is not at all on par with these cult classics. From direction to songs, everything is below the mark.
The sound track of the film, apart from ‘Aaj Fir Tumpe’, is the only savior but it also doesn’t create much impact. The cinematography is shabby and the part where Sonica gets assaulted is pathetically shot and looks extremely unconvincing. The editing could have been crisper.
