Movie Review

Rating :

Verdict : If you're fan of independent movies, watch it.

Director Manu Warrier’s debut venture Coffee Bloom, is a romantic drama starring Arjun Mathur and Sugandha Garg in lead roles. The film is produced by Speaking Tree Productions.

Dev Anand Kariappa (Arjun Mathur) is lost though a self proclaimed wise man. He sells his family business of coffee plantation in Coorg. But after his parents death he returns to the same plantation, which has been resold to Srinivas (Mohan Kapoor) and his wife Anika (Sugandha Garg).

Srinivas is a Coffee plantation enthusiastic but lacks the knowledge, so he hires coffee expert Dev to help him. But he doesn’t know that his wife and Dev were together before her marriage to him. Dev still has feelings for her, but Anika has moved on.

In Coorg’s idyllic setting, Dev crawls out of his self imposed sage-funk and finds a new reason to live.

Positive Points:-

Script idea is new. Actors have worked well within limited emotions to play with. The drama in this film is okay. The film is shot in beautiful locations and music by Prasad Ruparel fits perfectly.

Negative Points:-

Independent cinema by new comers is usually pretentious and self indulgent, same goes for this one. Pace of the film is slow, so it tends to get boring. It’s not filmi drama, so it’s for a very limited audience. Scenes between bare minimum star-cast come across as monotonous. Despite being refreshingly shot in Coorg, movie lack luster and some sort of gripping element.

Technical Points:-

Camera work and editing is good.
Movie offers nothing new, only the location. No bag of tricks, no item number, no fancy lightings. A plain old romantic drama set in a coffee plantation.

Film is a love story set in a coffee planatation in Coorg where ex-lovers meet with one of them married to someone else.
