Music and Dance has always remain an integral part of Indian cinema. These factors always acts as a catalyst in the success of the film. But making a film entirely based on dance is all together a different game. Few such experiments have been successful in past. Mithun da’s Disco dancer is a best example of this genre. Even today people enjoy that music and perform Mithun da’s steps. Remo being one of the ace choreographer first made F.A.L.T.U which had a story with music and dance being one of its part. Then came ABCD which was a success at the box office. ABCD was completely based on dance, with no big stars and one simple story to back the screenplay. After the success of ABCD Remo has come up with ABCD2. This time the film is based on true story of a dance troop from Mumbai’s Nalasopara with Varun and Shraddha playing the leads. So let’s find out, if ABCD2 will be able to create the same magic or may be more at box office...
Story:-
The movie starts off with a reality show where Suresh (Varun Dhawan) and Vinnie's (Shraddha Kapoor) dance troupe is alleged of copying International Philippines group. But just before this accusation is made, an illuminati dance performance is shown which will blow your mind with the 3D effects.
Now coming back to the plot, Suresh and team keeps getting humiliated by public and so he comes up with a plan that if they manage to win the World Hip Hop Dance competition then they can gain back their self respect. Exactly at this juncture in the story, Vishnu Sir (Prabhudeva) walks into the club where Suresh works and the way he dances leaves the latter mesmerized.
He convinces Vishnu Sir to choreograph the team and hold auditions to select new dancers, this is when Dharmesh and Vinod enter and impress you with their dance performances. The team head to Bengaluru where they win the qualifying round, but what nobody knows is that, it was Vishnu Sir who had searched for them and not the other way around.
With an intention to meet his long lost son, Vishnu Sir master plans this whole trip. So what happens to the dance troupe when their so called guru flees the scene with all their money?
How will they participate in the competition? How will they survive in Las Vegas? To know the answers you will have to watch the movie.
Positive Points :-
Choreography is the heart and soul for this movie. Right from the start till the end, the movie is filled with stunning dance moves. The energy levels of all the performers in the dance group are quite impressive.
Varun Dhawan and Shraddha Kapoor did a commendable job in their roles and perform with great vigour and enthusiasm through out the film. Shraddha Kapoor’s glamour gives an added advantage to this movie.
Prabhu Deva with his eye-popping dance moves in a couple of scenes gives a good boost to the film. His emotional track in the second half is also good.
Apart from the noted star cast, the entire team in the dance group should be credited for their performances. Also, the funny antics played by the group will brings in laughs for the audience. They ensured that the film is not short of entertaining elements.
Negative Points :-
The plot of the movie is a big minus. The storyline is quite regular and apart from the superb dance moves, none of the scenes will evoke much interest for the audience.
There is no great deal of chemistry between the lead pair. Although the occasional romantic track is showcased in the interim of the dance rehearsals, the lead pair’s relationship is not so convincing.
Few scenes in the second half are dragged to some extent. Also, the length of the movie acts as a dampener. The run time of 154 minutes seems to be a tad long given the current trend of Bollywood movies.
Technical Points :-
Cinematography is top notch as the audience are treated to a wide range of the beautiful locales in Las Vegas. The scintillating skyscrapers and other locations are captured brilliantly and these shots will leave the audience mesmerized.
Music and the background score are decent and the foot-tapping tunes in the climax will have good impact to the viewers. Few emotional dialogues in the second half are also scripted well.
The direction by Remo is ok and the screen play is carried out well. The production values are nice and the makers have not compromised on any technical aspect.
End Note:-
It is true that ABCD2 has lots of negative points like weak screenplay, 154 minutes run time but Director Remo ends up the film with a note - 'Life is all about the next step', we would love to follow that by excusing this film and wait for his next venture.
